We’re pleased to be contributing to EDITO2, a major Horizon Europe project developing the public infrastructure behind the European Digital Twin Ocean.

Backed by almost €14 million of EU funding, EDITO2 is the second phase of an ambitious European programme bringing together ocean data, models and digital tools in a shared environment. Running to 2028, the project aims to make Europe’s wealth of marine information easier to access, combine and use.
For the GIS community, the concept is particularly interesting: bringing diverse spatial and environmental datasets together with models and cloud-based tools so that users can explore, analyse and ultimately simulate aspects of the marine environment.
Our main role will focus on EMODnet Human Activities, part of the European Marine Observation and Data Network. Through our existing work with EMODnet, we help deliver harmonised geospatial datasets covering activities such as shipping, ports, offshore energy, aquaculture and many other uses of Europe’s seas.
As part of EDITO2, we’ll be working on the processes that enable EMODnet Human Activities data and metadata to flow into the European Digital Twin Ocean and stay synchronised as the underlying datasets evolve. The goal is to make these resources easier to discover and use alongside the many other sources of marine data being brought together through EDITO2.
We’ll also provide targeted support to EDITO2’s wider community and engagement activities, bringing our experience of managing, publishing and using marine geospatial information.
We’ll be working closely with Cogea srl, one of our long-standing consortium partners in EMODnet Human Activities, as well as VLIZ and the wider EDITO2 team.
