Requirement
gi Perspective were commissioned to create a media asset mapping application for use by the Qatar Government Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) who were responsible for planning and operations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. The secure application enabled the organisers to quickly locate, query and sell printed and digital media space to potential advertisers.
Solution
Media asset information, geolocations and images were collated from media suppliers and formatted into a single database structure in Esri’s ArcGIS Enterprise. The browser-based interactive mapping application was created using ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, initially in a hosted, mirrored software environment. Users of the mapping application were able to:
- log-in using two-factor authentication
- view information and locations of infrastructure such as stadiums and airports
- view media assets against detailed mapping, satellite imagery and shopping mall plans
- filter media assets by type, site, price, and geographical area
- view information and images about individual media assets such as banners, MUPIs and digital screens
Admin users were able to edit the locations of assets and update information such as price.
Result
The application was implemented in a closed hosted environment at SC premises in Doha one year before the start of the tournament to allow media selling to commence. SC thanked gi Perspective for their contribution to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, stating ‘the OAM program and the Media Mapping Application were a huge part of that success for us as well as the commercial affiliates’.
