Delivery of a Custom QGIS Training Programme
Requirement
Zetica, the UK’s leader in engineering and environmental geophysics, approached gi Perspective in 2022 with a requirement for custom GIS training in QGIS software. As existing GIS users on a daily basis, Zetica were looking to upskill certain aspects of QGIS use in order to maximise the business benefit.
Solution
The client compiled an initial list of topics for the custom training, drawing from several departmental uses. We then briefly engaged with the prospective trainees to understand their needs and skills more fully, resulting in a greater understanding of how to best address the custom training. A custom training programme with exercises was prepared by the consultant for delivery on-site.
Result
The four trainees, all Intermediate-level GIS users, were trained in a range of topics including Importing & Exporting data; Attributes; Table joins; Geolocating tabular data; Georeferencing raster data; Layer management; Advanced symbology; Labelling; Layouts; Geoprocessing; Metadata. As well as enhancing the users’ skills, the session gave an opportunity for them to discuss practises and new opportunities. Feedback from the training was “very positive”.
